The Ministry of Transport is seeking entrepreneurs, both Israeli and foreign, to submit proposals for two pilot projects in Israel: a trackless train and a sea shuttle. These initiatives aim to tackle the issue of traffic congestion by introducing new modes of transportation that will ease the strain on the country’s roads.
The proposed sea shuttles will operate between ports and docks located in cities such as Ashkelon, Ashdod, Netanya, Jaffa, Tel Aviv, Hadera, Haifa, and Acre. Companies interested in participating must provide details on the type of sea transport to be offered, minimum speed requirements (at least 30 knots), passenger capacity (at least 100), and comfort levels.
The “wheel trains,” based on successful models in China, are set to be operated by existing public transport companies. Minister of Transport Miri Regev stated that she had initiated these projects during her previous term but progress had come to a halt upon its conclusion. She is now focused on resuming work on these innovative transportation solutions, aiming to enhance mobility in Israel and provide passengers with convenient travel options while reducing travel times between different parts of the country.
