New Animal Science Minor at Morningside University: Preparing Students for a Career in Animal Health and Welfare

In fall 2024, Morningside University in Sioux City, Iowa will be introducing a new animal science minor for students looking to pursue careers related to animal health and welfare. This addition to the academic catalog provides students with a wider range of career opportunities and aligns with the university’s commitment to providing innovative academic programs that meet the needs of the Siouxland region.

Dr. Chris Spicer, the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Morningside University, expressed excitement about the new minor, highlighting the university’s dedication to offering interdisciplinary study options that prepare students for successful careers. Dr. Tom Paulsen, the dean of the School of Agriculture and Aviation, emphasized the hands-on learning experiences and industry partnerships that the animal science minor will provide. The curriculum is designed to give students a comprehensive understanding of animal biology, ethics, and the role of technology in animal science.

The addition of animal science complements the various majors available at Morningside University, giving students the flexibility to tailor their educational experience to their career goals. The Rosen Ag Center and Lags Farm – a 76-acre learning farm located near campus – reflect recent enhancements within the Regina Roth Applied Agricultural and Food Studies Department at Morningside University.

Interested students can contact Morningside University Admissions Office for more information on how to apply for this new program. Additional details on course requirements and application information can be found on Morningside’s animal science webpage.
