The upcoming drama film “Monsanto,” directed by John Lee Hancock, will feature an impressive cast that includes Glen Powell, Anthony Mackie, and Laura Dern. This true story follows the court case of Dewayne “Lee” Johnson, who was diagnosed with Non Hodgkin Lymphoma after using Monsanto’s weed killer.
The script for the film was developed in association with Zurich Avenue and written by Michael Wisner, Alexandra Duparc, Ned Benson, and Hancock. Producers include Moritz Borman, Eric Kopeloff, Philip Schulz-Deyle, and Jon Levin, with Adam McKay and Kevin Messick from HyperObject Industries also on board. Rocket Science will handle international sales while CAA Media Finance will manage US rights.
Hancock expressed his interest in directing this film due to its compelling nature as a David vs Goliath story. With films like “The Blind Side” and “Saving Mr Banks” under his belt, he aims to deliver a legal drama that resonates with audiences today. Mackie is known for his roles in films like “The Hurt Locker” and “The Banker,” while Laura Dern has extensive credits including “Marriage Story,” “Little Women,” and “Jurassic Park.” Together they hope to bring this important real-life story to the screen in a compelling way that raises awareness about the dangers of pesticides.
