With winter just around the corner, the ski season is almost upon us. Missouri is home to several ski resorts near Kansas City and St. Louis, including Hidden Valley Ski Resort in Wildwood. General Manager Tony Santora has been preparing the resort for the upcoming season, ensuring that all necessary inspections have been completed and that the snowmaking process is ready to go.
Santora explained that making snow for skiers is a crucial part of their operation. It takes about four days of continuous snowmaking for them to make enough snow to open, and they rely on a wet bulb temperature to determine when they can start making snow. The process involves pumping water from an underground source into a high-pressure machine that mixes it with air and creates snowflakes.
As they prepare for the start of ski season, staff members are being brought on board at Hidden Valley Ski Resort, and beginners can take advantage of lessons offered at the resort. In addition to skiing, there are also opportunities for snow tubing and snowboarding available. Whether you’re a seasoned skier or just starting out, there’s something for everyone to enjoy at these Missouri ski resorts during the winter season.
The anticipation is building as these resorts make final preparations for the winter season. With great weather conditions and plenty of activities to choose from, this year’s ski season promises to be one not to forget!
