Minnesota-based company Michael Foods Inc. has announced a recall of more than 4,600 pounds of liquid egg products due to misbranding and undeclared allergens. The affected items were produced on June 11 and include a 32-oz. paperboard carton labeled “Fair Meadow Foundations Whole Eggs with Citric Acid” with a use by date of “16 SEP 24” and lot code 4162G. These products are also sold in a corrugated case labeled Scrambled Egg Blend with the same use by date and lot code.

The issue was identified during a routine carton inventory evaluation when the company noticed discrepancies in their inventory. They discovered that a limited amount of Whole Egg with Citric Acid cartons were missing, and there was an excess of Breakfast Blend Scrambled Egg cartons. Further investigation revealed that the missing cartons had been used mistakenly during a production run for Breakfast Blend Scrambled Egg, which contains an allergen, milk, not listed on the Whole Egg with Citric Acid label.

Luckily, there have been no reports of adverse reactions from consuming these products. Michael Foods Inc. acted quickly to notify the Food Safety Inspection Service (FSIS) and initiate the recall process. Consumers who may have purchased these products are advised to return them for a full refund or dispose of them properly.
