‘Greatest of all time’ – Shiffrin wins once more in Soldeu giant slalom

Shiffrin’s record-breaking season had currently observed her surpass Ingemar Stenmark at the major of the all-time standings with her 87th win earlier in March. The 28-year-old had currently wrapped up the giant slalom crystal globe heading into the final weekend, along with the all round and slalom titles.

And she capped a memorable year with her 14th Globe Cup win of the season just after a further outstanding show, holding on in the final sector to deny Stjernesund a well-known win.

With Shiffrin’s giant slalom crystal globe currently banked, interest was on the battle for second in between Lara Gut-Behrami and Marta Bassino. And it was the Swiss star who took it, with a fourth location seeing her take second in the GS standings on 482, ahead of Bassino on 475.

The slope may possibly have been quick, but it was a steep, serious and difficult track to finish the season’s competitors.

Skiers had to contend with a rough and bumpy track that had attracted lots of interest from race organisers who had attempted to increase the situations.

Nevertheless, that did not stop a string of early exits as Petra Vlhova, Frederica Brignone and Sara Hector – two Olympic champions, one particular planet champion – have been 3 of 5 DNFs in the very first run.

Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, Shiffrin’s companion, shocked the American with a post-race interview, and asked what she produced of her results.

She replied by way of laughter: “I really feel OK, this is awesome.

“I really feel good and all these ladies are fighting in the second run. Congrats, I barely squeaked by that. Congrats to all the ladies. I’ve decided to come back and do it all once more subsequent year.

“Just hold moving on. Going back to the US, going to get some beach time.”
