Phil Spencer to Unveil Major Business Update for Xbox on Feb. 15

Microsoft is set to reveal updates on the state of the Xbox business and the possibility of Xbox exclusives going multiplatform on Thursday, Feb. 15. The reveal will come in the form of a podcast featuring Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer, Xbox president Sarah Bond, and head of Xbox Game Studios Matt Booty.

This special edition of the Official Xbox Podcast will be available to watch on YouTube or listen to wherever podcasts are available, going live on Thursday at 3 p.m. EST/12 p.m. PST. The discussion is expected to address rumors and reports about various Xbox-exclusive games possibly making their way to PlayStation and Nintendo consoles.

Last week, Spencer hinted at concrete details being shared during the event, acknowledging the concerns of the gaming community. Despite the potential for multiplatform releases, the future of Xbox will reportedly still include a hardware component. Spencer assured Microsoft employees that there are no plans to stop making Xbox consoles, hinting at a strategy that involves “multiple kinds of devices.”

If franchises like Halo, Gears of War, Forza, and Fable are indeed going to PlayStation and Nintendo consoles, it would mark a significant shift from Xbox’s past. More details on the company’s vision for the future of Xbox are expected to be shared during the Thursday event.

Microsoft’s decision to allow its exclusive games on other platforms is not new as they have been doing this with PC in recent years but if it extends to other console platforms it would change their current strategy which has been focusing solely on their own ecosystem.

Fans who want more information about what’s happening with Microsoft’s gaming division should tune into this special episode of The Official Xbox Podcast featuring Phil Spencer, Sarah Bond and Matt Booty discussing updates on the state of Xbox business and rumors about multiplatform exclusives.

The podcast will be live on Thursday at 3 p.m EST/12 pst so don’t miss out!
