Mexico’s Andrea Becerra Shines in Hyundai Archery World Cup Season Opener, Secures Top Seed with Record-Breaking Performance

At the Hyundai Archery World Cup season opener in Shanghai, Mexico’s Andrea Becerra had a standout performance, scoring 713 points in the 50-meter qualifying round. This impressive result secured her a top seed position, a significant achievement since her international debut in 2018.

Andrea, also known as Maya by her teammates, was determined to secure the top spot in the qualifying round. Despite consistently strong match results, she had never achieved a high qualifier status before. Her personal best scores over the years have hovered around 700 points.

During the qualifying round in Shanghai, Andrea came close to breaking the world record, only missing out due to a minor error in the third-to-last end. She noticed that some of her shots were just on the edge of the target, narrowly missing the highest points. In a previous World Cup Final held in Tlaxcala two years ago, Andrea finished fourth as a host nation invitee. This time, she is determined to earn her spot in the prestigious event without the need for a special invitation.

Andrea’s ultimate goal is to secure a place at the World Cup Final through her exceptional archery skills and dedication to the sport. She expressed her pride in the strength of the Mexican team and their prospects in the World Cup Final, which is being held once again in Tlaxcala this year.
