On Monday, November 20th, Jane Bentham of the Global Mining Review published an article about Freeport-McMoRan’s recent order for a tankhouse material handling solution from Metso. The order, valued at over €10 million, was booked in the Minerals segment’s 4Q23 orders received and includes Outotec Anode Preparation and Cathode Stripping Machines based on proven design. Both machines use modern robotic electrode handling to optimize layout and material handling efficiency in the existing refinery.

Mikko Rantaharju, Vice President of Hydrometallurgy business line at Metso, commented on the project saying “We are thrilled to continue our partnership with Freeport-McMoRan on this significant project. We are confident that our technology will ensure high efficiency and quality of copper production in the El Paso copper electrorefinery after modernization. Our solution combines our long-term experience with modern robot technology to meet the material handling needs of the existing tankhouse.”
