Nicole Hernandez, a UF biochemistry undergraduate student, had the opportunity to virtually shadow healthcare professionals through the Medi-Gators shadowing program. This experience strengthened her resolve to continue on the pre-med track and helped her develop essential communication skills for success.
Hernandez, who is set to graduate in May 2024 and plans to apply to medical school after taking a gap year, was actively involved in Medi-Gators. She served on the events committee and as a student ambassador, which provided her with valuable exposure and experiences in the healthcare field.
Through this program, Hernandez gained insights into the various career options available in healthcare, which can be challenging to navigate. The program offered her a better understanding of the different paths she can take in her pursuit of a medical career. Overall, Hernandez found it eye-opening to see how teams work together and develop essential communication skills for success.
