Maryland Joins National ‘Go Green’ Campaign to Boost Mental Health Awareness

In May, the Mental Health Association of Maryland is partnering with the Department of Health to promote the ‘Go Green’ campaign. The initiative aims to raise awareness about mental health by encouraging individuals and businesses to light up their surroundings in green from May 13-19. This national campaign is taking place across the country, with a goal of highlighting the importance of mental wellbeing.

Residents and businesses in Maryland are being encouraged to participate by wearing green, lighting up buildings in green and sharing their participation on social media. Several notable locations including Oriole Park at Camden Yards, M&T Bank Stadium, Merriweather Post Pavilion, government and nonprofit organizations are taking part in this initiative. The Department of Health is also organizing events and activities throughout the month to raise awareness and support for mental health.

Deputy Secretary for Behavioral Health Alyssa Lord emphasized the significance of mental health in overall wellbeing and the need for access to care and support in building communities of understanding. Chief Program Officer Heidi Rochon from the Mental Health Association of Maryland stressed the importance of protecting mental health and ensuring equal access to care for all Marylanders.

Those interested in participating can sign up at mhamd.org/yes-to-green. Together, we can light up our skyline in green, show our commitment to mental health and raise awareness about its importance
