Mars Mission: Overcoming Obstacles and Finding Success on Sol 2256

On Sol 2256, the team was eager to begin a productive day of science and drilling on Mars. However, their optimism was short-lived when they discovered that the workspace was once again unsuitable for drilling. Despite two previous unsuccessful attempts, the team refused to give up and instead set their sights on a new target: “Region C.”

Before driving towards Region C, ChemCam data will be collected on targets “Sandy Haven” and “Tarness Haven,” along with a Mastcam multispectral mosaic to assess color variations. The environmental group will also monitor the atmosphere with Navcam observations, including a line of sight image and a dust devil movie.

Curiosity will then begin the drive towards Region C, with planned stops for Mastcam and Navcam imaging to assess the terrain along the way. Once reaching the final parking spot, additional images will be taken to determine if drilling at Region C is feasible or if the search for suitable drilling locations will continue.
