On Tuesday, a fire broke out on the largest cruise ship in the world, the Icon of the Seas. The incident occurred in Costa Maya, Mexico and caused the ship to briefly lose power. Fortunately, the fire was isolated to a crew area and was quickly put out without any injuries.
Despite the minor blaze, the backup power system prevented any deviations from the ship’s itinerary. The vessel was on a week-long Western Caribbean cruise that departed from Miami, Florida. Since its maiden voyage in January, the Icon of the Seas has encountered a few incidents.
In May, a passenger jumped off the ship while en route to Honduras and unfortunately, his remains have not been found. Just a month prior, another young passenger fell to his death during a drunken altercation with his father on a different Royal Caribbean cruise ship.
Royal Caribbean has not yet issued a statement regarding these incidents.
