Matt McElwain belted a go-ahead two-run homer in the fifth inning, and Nick White and Quinn McDaniel also homered as major-seeded Maine (30-19) opened its quest for the America East championship with a ten-7 win more than UMass Lowell (20-34) in Binghamton, New York.
White hit an RBI double in the 1st inning and two-run homer in the third. Jeremiah Jenkins was three for four with two RBI, Connor Goodman also drove in two runs, and McDaniel scored 3 instances.
Noah Lewis (7-1) was credited with the pitching victory, enabling 4 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits more than five 1/three innings right after he relieved Colin Fitzgerald in the third inning. Justin Baeyens retired the final 3 batters for his seventh save of the season.
Maine plays a winners’ bracket game at 1 p.m. Friday against UMBC or Binghamton.

Thomas crossed right away behind Primoz Roglic, who moved up from third spot to second. Thomas, the 2018 Tour de France champion, leads Roglic by 29 seconds and Joao Almeida by 39 seconds.
