Dick Vitale, the iconic college basketball announcer, recently underwent successful surgery to remove cancerous lymph nodes. Following a recent biopsy that revealed the presence of cancer in his lymph node, Vitale announced on social media that he was undergoing surgery on Friday. Despite battling cancer for the fourth time at the age of 85, Vitale remains optimistic and grateful for the support and prayers he has received from his fans.
In a post on social media, Vitale shared that Dr. Vosler removed the cancerous lymph node and surrounding lymph nodes for further examination. Despite facing challenges with cancer in recent years, Vitale is determined to continue sharing his passion for college basketball with fans. His first diagnosis was melanoma in 2021 followed by lymphoma a few months later. However, he returned to the broadcast booth after undergoing treatment and has continued to inspire many with his resilience and determination.
Vitale’s latest battle with cancer is just one of several setbacks he has faced in recent years. But despite these challenges, Vitale remains hopeful that he will be able to return to calling games in the future as he misses the energy and camaraderie of college basketball events. As he continues to recover from his recent surgery, Vitale is grateful for the outpouring of support from the basketball community and his colleagues at ESPN.
