Katie Ledecky secures fourth Olympic berth; Gretchen Walsh shatters world record at US trials

Katie Ledecky qualified for the 400m freestyle at the US Swimming Olympic Team Trials in Indianapolis, Indiana. She finished with a time of 3:58.35 and is set to swim in three more events at the trials. Ledecky expressed her excitement by saying, “I never imagined I’d get to go to a fourth Olympic Games.” Her success was not only due to her own hard work but also the support and motivation she received from those around her.

A crowd of 20,689 people showed up at the stadium, which is usually home to the NFL’s Indianapolis Colts, according to USA Swimming. The stadium saw an impressive performance by Gretchen Walsh who set a world record in the women’s 100m butterfly with a time of 55.18 in a semifinal heat. Walsh broke the record set by Sweden’s Sarah Sjöström at the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.

Walsh, who is only 21 years old, will try to qualify for her first Olympic Games on Sunday. The US Swimming Olympic Team Trials will continue through June 23rd and the Paris Olympics are set to start on July 26th and run through August 11th.
