Kayla Harrison’s Dominating UFC Debut Puts Her in Title Contention at 135 Pounds

At UFC 300, Kayla Harrison emerged as the standout winner, making a significant impact on her division. Harrison, who boasts an impressive record of 17-1 and is a two-time PFL champion and two-time Olympic gold medalist in judo, faced former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Holly Holm and dominated the fight. She outstruck Holm 68-7, had nearly a full round of control time, and secured a submission victory in the second round. This victory was especially notable considering Harrison’s lack of experience in the 135-pound division, having previously only fought at 145 pounds once.

With long-time champion Amanda Nunes recently retiring, Harrison’s win has stirred up excitement in the division. Harrison confidently predicted a UFC title before the year’s end, and with current 135-pound champion Raquel Pennington set to return potentially against former champion Julianna Peña, Harrison could be in a prime position to challenge for the title. The conversation among MMA Junkie’s panelists Brian “Goze” Garcia, Danny Segura, Mike Bohn, and host “Gorgeous” George Garcia explored Harrison’s impressive UFC debut in their latest episode of “Spinning Back Clique.”
