
Texas-primarily based furnishings retailer Louis Shanks is closing its doors right after practically 80 years in enterprise. The corporation announced on Tuesday that it will be shutting down its two remaining retailers positioned in San Antonio and Austin, following a liquidation sale. The sale is set to start on Thursday, according to a news release.
Louis Shanks Furnishings was founded by Louis Shanks in Austin and has been in the household for 4 generations. Shanks initially opened a shop with companion John Stanford in downtown Austin in the 1940s. Just after 5 years, their partnership ended, and Shanks then partnered with Henry Meyers to establish the Shanks-Meyers furnishings shop. In 1954, Shanks purchased out Meyers and opened the Louis Shanks Furnishings shop on Lamar Boulevard in Austin.
More than the years, the enterprise expanded, adding a second shop in Austin in 1974, followed by a San Antonio place in 1983. It later expanded to Houston and Sugarland.
