Jerusalem’s Metro Future: A Step Towards Sustainable Transportation

The Jerusalem Municipality and the Ministry of Transport have recently released a tender for a feasibility study and preliminary design of three metro lines that are proposed for implementation in the Israeli capital. The goal is to have 8 tram lines operating in Jerusalem by 2030, but experts predict that this may not be sufficient to meet the needs of the growing population.

This long-term planning indicates a commitment to improving public transportation infrastructure in Jerusalem to ensure that it can adequately serve residents and visitors in the years to come. The terms of the tender state that the design work for the metro lines should be completed by the end of 2026, with construction tentatively scheduled to begin in 2040.

As part of this initiative, the Joint team has put out a call for proposals from companies or organizations to conduct the necessary studies and design work to move the project forward. This marks an important step towards modernizing and expanding Jerusalem’s public transportation network to keep up with the demands of a city experiencing rapid growth and development.
