World’s First 3D Banknotes Designed by Japan to Fight Counterfeiting

Japan recently introduced new redesigned banknotes featuring enhanced security features and advanced hologram technology. The new notes, which were issued in denominations of 10,000 yen, 5,000 yen, and 1,000 yen, were distributed to financial institutions and are now available to consumers through banks and ATMs. This marks the first time in 20 years that Japan has introduced new banknotes.

The new banknotes feature 3D holograms of historical figures who have made significant contributions to Japanese culture and science. On the 10,000 yen note is Eiichi Shibusawa, known as the father of Japanese capitalism, while the 5,000 yen note showcases educator Umeko Tsuda, a pioneer in women’s rights. Microbiologist Shibasaburo Kitasato is honored on the 1,000 yen note.
