Intense clashes in northern and southern Gaza as residents face dire living conditions

On Saturday, Israel resumed its attacks on Gaza, resulting in heavy fighting and dire living conditions in the territory. The UNRWA has deemed the living conditions “unbearable” for Palestine refugees. The Ministry of Health in Gaza reported that more than 35 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks on Gaza neighborhoods and refugee camps, bringing the total toll to over 37,800 Palestinians killed and nearly 87,000 injured since the conflict began on October 7th.

The Israeli army clashed with Hamas fighters in the northern Gaza Strip on Saturday, exacerbating the already dire living conditions reported by UNRWA. Israeli forces advanced into two areas in the north and south of the Gaza Strip, with tank shelling in Rafah reportedly killing at least 11 people. The Israeli military confirmed ongoing operations in the Shujaiya neighborhood east of Gaza City, where fighting had resulted in casualties.

Residents fleeing the Shuja’iya neighborhood due to Israeli bombings shared harrowing stories of leaving everything behind to escape with their families. Reports from Arab television highlighted the chaos and fear gripping the population as they sought refuge from the bombing. The Civil Defense in the Gaza Strip reported casualties from an Israeli attack on a residential apartment, further illustrating the toll of the conflict on civilians.

Damage to hospitals in the Gaza Strip has led to significant challenges in providing medical care to the population, with the World Health Organization reporting that a majority of hospitals are either damaged or non-operational. The UNRWA condemned the conditions in
