Israel on Brink of Ending Gaza Conflict as Controversies Rise at Home

Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, has announced that the country is on the verge of eradicating Palestinian military capabilities as part of the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The Defense Minister has called for an additional 10,000 troops to join the army immediately. Meanwhile, the opposition leader has warned that Netanyahu plans to dismiss the attorney general in order to resolve a crisis with the Haredim community. This has led to calls for strikes and street protests demanding the government’s dismissal.

During a meeting with National Security College trainees in Jerusalem, Netanyahu stated that progress had been made in fighting in Rafah and efforts to eliminate Hamas were near completion. Reports suggest that Israel is close to ending its operation in Rafah and focusing on preventing Palestinian factions from regrouping. Negotiations for a settlement on the Lebanese border after the war are also being discussed.

Meanwhile, Galant emphasized the need for more soldiers with plans to absorb 3,000 ultra-Orthodox recruits. The opposition leader accused Netanyahu of planning to dismiss the attorney general, which sparked calls for early elections. The release of Al-Shifa Medical Complex’s director caused controversy among Israeli political and military circles prompting Netanyahu to order an investigation into this matter.

Dr Mohammed Abu Salmiya, who was released after more than seven months of detention, described physical and psychological abuse he faced while imprisoned by Israel. His release and subsequent statements have raised concerns about human rights violations against Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails.
