Iraq’s Prime Minister Revisits Anbar Power Station Project: A Strategic Initiative on Track to Completion

During a recent visit to Anbar governorate, Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa Al-Sudani reviewed the progress of the Anbar combined power station project in the Euphrates district. He met with the executing company at the project headquarters to discuss the ongoing work and ensure its speedy completion according to required specifications. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of not delaying this strategic initiative, which began in 2013 and was halted for approximately 8 years due to ISIS terrorism.

The Anbar power station project is expected to have a capacity of 1640 megawatts, utilizing local natural gas from the Okaz gas field as fuel. This will reduce energy production costs and ensure a stable energy supply in Iraq. Currently, the completion rate of the project stands at 50%, with four gas units and two steam units being part of its setup.

During his visit, Al-Sudani also reviewed the status of electricity service throughout Anbar governorate and followed up on the Akkas gas project, which will provide fuel for this power station once completed. This demonstrates the government’s commitment to improving infrastructure and energy capabilities in Iraq.
