In the midst of the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas, a pro-Palestine pitch invader caused chaos during the World Cup match between India and Australia at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The incident occurred just before the first drinks break during India’s innings, as a man wearing a face mask with the design of the Palestine flag and a T-shirt with slogans “Stop bombing Palestine” on the front and “Save Palestine” on the back breached the security cordon.
The pitch invader managed to get as far as Virat Kohli in the middle before being apprehended by security personnel. He was later identified as Wayne Johnson, an Australian of Chinese-Filipino origin, and was arrested and taken to Chand Kheda Police station in Ahmedabad.
Despite protests being prohibited at cricket games under ICC regulations, since Johnson is a foreign national, it is yet to be determined what kind of action will be taken against him. It is important to note that Israel and Hamas have been engaged in a war since October 7th. Amidst this incident, it is crucial to maintain peace and avoid any further escalation of violence.
