India is rapidly emerging as a leader in quantum technology, thanks to the rapid growth of over forty startups in the field over the past two years. This trend indicates the growing potential of India in the global tech landscape, according to Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology.
During a recent meeting on the 100-day action plan for the Department of Science & Technology, Dr. Singh emphasized the importance of India’s National Quantum Mission, which aims to establish India as a global leader and foster advancements in quantum communication.
One notable example of this is QuNu Labs, an incubated startup from Bangalore that has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Technology Development Board to develop security products using quantum technologies.
In addition to this progress, Dr. Singh also highlighted the increase in women’s participation in extramural research and development due to government initiatives promoting women in STEM fields. Over 300 women scientists are currently receiving research grants under the ASPIRE scheme.
Furthermore, India’s position in the Global Innovation Index has significantly improved, moving from 81st place in 2015 to 40th place in 2023. The growth of India’s startup ecosystem is also something to be proud of, with over 1 lakh startups today, including over 110 unicorns.
