S Jaishankar engages in discussions on trade, technology, and global issues with Qatar’s PM Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani.

On Sunday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar made a day-long visit to Doha, where he met with Qatar’s Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss various aspects of the bilateral relationship between India and Qatar.

During the discussion, they talked about political, trade, investment, energy, technology, culture, and people-to-people ties. They also exchanged views on regional and global issues, with a particular focus on the situation in Gaza.

Jaishankar expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome and conveyed the greetings and warm wishes of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the Prime Minister of Qatar. He emphasized the importance of further enhancing India-Qatar relations and continuing dialogue on issues of mutual interest.

This visit came after Qatar released eight former Indian Navy personnel who were sentenced to death in August 2022. Jaishankar was received at the airport by Chief of Protocol Ibrahim Fakhroo, and the visit aimed to review various aspects of bilateral relations, including political, trade, investment, energy, security, cultural, and people-to-people ties.

India and Qatar share a long history of friendly relations. In February 2023, Prime Minister Modi visited Qatar and held discussions with Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani. Both countries have committed to regular exchange of high-level visits and cooperation in various areas of mutual interest.
