Improving Health through Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: A Call to Action

A diverse group of healthcare organizations has come together to advocate for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) policies in the healthcare industry. The Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME), American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), American Medical Association (AMA), American Osteopathic Association (AOA), Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), Council of Medical Specialty Societies (CMSS), National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME), National Board of Osteopathic Medical Examiners (NBOME), and the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) have all issued a joint statement expressing their support for these policies.

These organizations represent a wide range of healthcare professionals in the United States, including physicians from diverse backgrounds and specialties who are committed to improving patient outcomes. Their collective efforts have focused on equipping physicians with the best tools and evidence to ensure that patients receive the highest quality care possible.

The statement emphasizes the need to address longstanding inequities in the healthcare system and their impact on patient health. It argues that excellence in patient care cannot be achieved until there is a physician workforce capable of providing holistic care and until the medical profession is accessible to all qualified individuals.

The organizations stand united in their commitment to promoting inclusive excellence and achieving positive outcomes for their members and patients they serve. By supporting DEI policies in health care, these associations aim to create a more equitable and inclusive healthcare system that benefits everyone.
