Harnessing Overseas Scientists’ Expertise to Propel Vietnam’s Science and Technology Forward: Insights from a Korean Meeting

Vietnamese scientists abroad are being encouraged by the Prime Minister to play a role in the country’s development. During a meeting with the Vietnamese community in Korea, Pham Minh Chinh expressed his hope that they would contribute to Vietnam’s growth through science and technology.

Dao Tuan Hung, Chairman of the Vietnam Business Association in Ho Chi Minh City, emphasized the importance of creating channels to connect and support the transfer of science and technology from Korea to Vietnam. He proposed setting up a research cooperation department and prioritizing research topics based on business needs, as well as establishing a fund to support scientific research and startups.

Representatives from the Vietnam Innovation Network in Korea also voiced their desire to support the transfer of science and technology, training, and consulting for Vietnamese startups in Korea. The network consists of 89 members who are scientists and experts working in Korean Universities and corporations, and aims to contribute to Vietnam’s scientific and technological advancement.

During the meeting, various proposals were made to improve research collaboration between domestic scientists and Vietnamese intellectuals and researchers abroad. Suggestions included establishing a national innovation research portal and cooperating with Vietnamese scientists around the world to address domestic problems.

Huynh Thanh Dat, Minister of Science and Technology, confirmed that funding will be provided to research groups both domestically and internationally to work together on finding solutions to practical issues. Additionally, he announced plans for a decree on innovation that aims to address obstacles in applying science, technology, and innovation to production and business in Vietnam.
