Greiner, a plastics and foam company based in Upper Austria, is bucking the trend of declining investments and poor mood among companies in Europe. Despite challenges, including a 9.1 percent decline in sales to 2.1 billion euros, finance director Hannes Moser described the result as solid. In fact, Greiner has remained firmly anchored in Europe, with over 80 percent of its 138 million euros of investments flowing into European locations, including 56 million euros invested in Austria.
Greiner’s CEO Saori Dubourg emphasizes that the company will remain committed to Austria as a location due to favorable conditions for developing new technologies and products. This commitment is reflected in Greiner’s investment in employee development, with a focus on artificial intelligence and sustainability. The company is also working to increase the proportion of women in management positions to 40 percent by 2030.
In addition to its commitment to employee development and diversity, Greiner is also investing heavily in sustainability initiatives. In 2022, the company acquired a Serbian recycling company as part of its sustainability strategy and commitment to the Circular economy. Greiner has made significant progress in achieving EU recycling goals and complying with the Supply Chain Act, which brings both regulations and opportunities for expanding markets and intensifying the economy.
Despite global labor shortages, Greiner increased its number of employees by 9.3 percent last year to 10,544 worldwide, with a slight increase in Austria to 2,050 employees. There are currently 190 vacant positions at Greiner, including many in Austria. Despite these challenges, Greiner remains optimistic about its future prospects and remains firmly anchored in Europe as it continues to develop new technologies and products for customers around the world.
