Fire Destroys Butler County Health Department Building, Renders it a Total Loss

On Sunday morning, the Butler County Health Department building in Greenville was destroyed by a fire. Greenville Police Chief Justin Lovvorn confirmed that a 911 call was made around 3:30 a.m., leading to firefighters declaring it a general alarm fire. The building has been declared a total loss and local authorities are working with the state Fire Marshal’s office to investigate the cause of the fire.

Health department officials have confirmed that no one was in the building during the fire and there were no injuries reported. The Alabama Department of Public Health is currently working to find a temporary space to continue providing services until a new building can be established. In the meantime, citizens who need health department services are encouraged to contact the Crenshaw County Health Department or other nearby locations for assistance.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing, but at this time it does not appear to be intentional.
