West Allis and Greenfield will combine health departments

The Greenfield Health Department and the West Allis Health Department have announced their merger to form the Southwest Suburban Health Department. This new organization will serve both cities for a period of five years.

The Greenfield and West Allis Common Councils have approved an intergovernmental agreement to establish the Southwest Suburban Health Department, which will be jointly funded by both cities and will also receive grants from the State of Wisconsin Department of Health and Social Services.

The merger aims to improve efficiency, communication, and services for residents within these jurisdictions. The mission of the Southwest Suburban Health Department is to enhance the health and wellbeing of Wisconsinites through education and disease prevention while promoting diversity, connection, and partnership.

Dan Devine, mayor of West Allis, expressed his excitement about the collaborative relationship between the two departments. Meanwhile, Michael Neitzke, mayor of Greenfield, emphasized the streamlined delivery of community and environmental health services that will be offered to all residents served by the new department.
