VW and Porsche experience a decline in sales

German car companies are facing a crisis as sales figures for battery-powered vehicles take a hit, leading to cuts in jobs and production shifts at VW and Porsche. Despite selling almost 800,000 electric cars last year, battery-powered vehicles only made up a small percentage of total sales for VW. This has led to a decrease in sales and the need to cut shifts and jobs at plants like Zwickau.

According to experts, overestimation of demand for electric vehicles, competition from cheaper Chinese models, and political decisions have contributed to the electric crisis facing German car companies. In response, companies like Mercedes-Benz are shifting focus back to combustion engines and investing in their development.

While VW is cutting temporary contracts and production shifts, Porsche is also considering similar actions due to weakening demand for electric vehicles. German buyers are shying away from electric cars, with sales dropping significantly in recent months.
