Broncos Roster Series: Player No. 20 – Fullback Michael Burton

Michael Burton is a fullback who has been playing for the Denver Broncos for two seasons. Before joining the Broncos, he played for the Detroit Lions, Chicago Bears, and New Orleans Saints. He was originally drafted by the Lions in the fifth round from Rutgers in 2015. Burton stands at 6 feet tall and weighs 247 pounds.

In his career, Burton has primarily been used as a blocker but has also recorded 35 rushes for 71 yards and one touchdown and 21 receptions for 131 yards and one score. Despite being waived by the Lions in 2017, Burton bounced back and made significant contributions to special teams during his time with the Kansas City Chiefs, helping them win Super Bowl LVII.

After signing a one-year contract with the Broncos last spring, Burton served as their fullback and made important contributions to special teams in 2023. This spring, he re-signed on another one-year deal with the team. As of now, Burton is currently the only true fullback on the team ahead of training camp. However, there are plans to convert tight end/fullback Nate Adkins to a full-time role if needed.

Burton’s chances of making the 53-man roster seem high as he has proven himself as a valuable asset to the team’s special teams unit and could provide some depth at fullback position if necessary. With no other true fullbacks on the roster, Burton’s role will likely be crucial to the team’s success in both offense and defense next season.
