From Silver Bluff to Livingstone: One Athlete’s Journey to Follow Her Dreams

Bing is a multi-sport athlete at Silver Bluff, where she excels in girls’ basketball, cheer, and track and field. Her passion for sports was instilled in her by her athletic family, who encouraged her to stay active and engaged in physical activities. Bing values the importance of working towards goals both inside and outside of the classroom. As a result, she plans to pursue a degree in biology at Livingstone College.

Bing expressed her love for the community at Silver Bluff and chose Livingstone College because of its HBCU environment. She believes that she will be surrounded by individuals who share her values and passion for sports. Bing is excited to recreate the supportive community she has experienced at Silver Bluff and hopes to continue developing her athletic skills. Coach Shauna Barfield praised Bing’s selflessness as an athlete, noting her dedication to the relay team despite having no prior experience. Bing’s focus on team events instead of individual competitions helped her team place second at the state championship.

On the other hand, Walker fulfilled his long-term goal of continuing his track and field career by signing with Limestone College. He spoke about the sacrifices he made and the dedication he put into his training to achieve his dream. Walker reflected on how discipline was necessary to forgo social events and focus solely on his athletic pursuits, which ultimately led him to excel at the next level of competition.
