World-class gymnast Dipa Karmakar is set to make her return to the international stage as she prepares to compete in the World Gymnastics Championships in Cairo, Egypt from February 15-18. After a five-year pause, Ms. Deepa, who gained fame at the Rio Olympics, is currently practicing in New Delhi for the upcoming championships.
Despite a right leg injury, Padma Shri recipient Dipa is determined to excel on the vaulting table, her sole event at the championships. Her father, Dulal Karmakar, expressed his confidence in her abilities while also expressing concern about her injury. Vishveshwar Nandi, her coach and Dronacharya awardee, shared his faith in Ms. Dipa’s recovery but also voiced his concerns about her injury.
Ms. Dipa has worked diligently to clear her name and prove herself after facing a setback in her career due to a doping controversy. She earlier shared her determination to bring success to her country and requested blessings and prayers from everyone. Tripura State Gymnastics Association and fellow gymnasts have also extended their best wishes to Ms. Dipa as she embarks on this journey towards glory.
