Expansion of Brownsville Veterans International Bridge to Boost Border Trade and Stimulate Economic Growth

On Wednesday, local, state and federal officials gathered to celebrate the expansion of the Veterans International Bridge. The project aims to add extra lanes to accommodate more drivers crossing into the United States. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will also benefit from the expansion with eight additional secondary inspection spaces and a new head house being added.

Texas Senator John Cornyn played a key role in securing funding for the $18 million project. He highlighted the importance of the relationship with Mexico, stating that the lane expansion will lead to greater economic prosperity and strengthen the trade partnership between the two countries.

Cameron County Judge Eddie Trevino Jr. expressed his excitement about the project, stating that it will increase capability and capacity at the ports of entry. The additional CBP agents will help to streamline the process and reduce wait times for drivers crossing from Matamoros into Brownsville.
