Amanda Flann started her own sourdough starter in January 2022 and began selling baked goods through a direct-to-consumer, porch-pickup business in June of that same year. Her three-year-old daughter, Scottie, is always close by offering a small but helpful hand. Flann wanted to ensure that her daughter never felt like she was second to her job, as she believes that this time with her daughter is irreplaceable.
The business, As Much As You Knead, was founded during what Flann described as a challenging season of life. She found baking to be a restful activity and wanted to start her own business to be able to stay home with her daughter. In December 2022, she began offering sourdough-making classes, which she enjoys as an extrovert and people person.
Flann believes that the “Mommy & Me Sourdough Painting” class will be a special opportunity for her and her daughter to work together and share the joy of baking with others. The class will be held on Saturday, May 11 at Poly’s Place Coffee from 3:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and the cost is $45 per person. Participants will each receive a fresh-baked sourdough loaf to decorate with food-safe paint and markers
