Expansion planned for organization providing housing to families of VA health care system patients in Pittsburgh area

The Fisher House is a national organization that provides free housing for family members of military members and veterans who are being treated at VA hospitals. These long-distance trips can be stressful and financially burdensome, but the Fisher House offers a comfortable place to stay and relieve some of the stress that comes with having a loved one in the hospital.

In the Pittsburgh area, the Fisher House has a housing center next to the VA hospital in Oakland that can accommodate 10 families at a time. Families who stay at the Fisher House save an average of $1,900 during their six-day stay. This is just one example of how the Fisher House is making a difference in the lives of military and veteran families in need.

The organization is planning to expand its services by building a new facility in O’Hara Township, which is expected to open in 2026. This new facility will provide housing for even more families, including those who have relatives in nursing homes, hospice care, or rehab at the VA hospital. The cost to build a Fisher House is $9 million, and the organization is working to raise $3 million in funding.

To help bridge this gap in funding, the Fisher House is seeking corporate sponsorships from companies that want to support this important cause. With donations and community support, they hope to continue providing support and housing for military and veteran families in need. By making a difference in these lives, we can honor their sacrifices and show our gratitude for their service to our country.
