Arizona Tax Business Faces Injunction for Alleged Fraud

A federal court has granted the Justice Department a permanent injunction against Golden Heart Tax Services and its tax preparers, who are accused of fraudulent activity. The defendants, including Mayuen Ajak, Yier Deng, Bol Guot, Gabriel Kuot, and Golden Heart Tax Services LLC, are barred from owning or operating a tax preparation business and preparing tax returns.

Golden Heart Tax Services was founded in Texas in 2018 and is currently operating in Arizona, Texas, Missouri, and Nebraska. The complaint alleges that the defendants falsely prepared tax returns to increase customer refunds and profit through high undisclosed preparation fees. Customers of the defendants were primarily immigrants to the United States with limited English proficiency and tax knowledge.

The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) estimates that approximately $10 million was lost due to the defendants’ alleged misconduct. To help taxpayers avoid unscrupulous tax preparers, the IRS provides information on its website about choosing a tax return preparer. The IRS also offers a directory of legitimate tax preparers to assist taxpayers in finding reputable services. It is crucial for individuals to be cautious and informed when selecting a tax preparation service to prevent falling victim to fraudulent practices.

In conclusion, this case serves as a reminder of the importance of selecting reputable tax preparation services. It highlights how unscrupulous practices can lead to significant financial losses for both individuals and society as a whole. As such, it is essential for individuals to take the necessary steps to protect themselves from fraudulent activities while seeking assistance with their taxes.
