In recent elections, France’s far-right National Unity party has emerged victorious in the first round of parliamentary elections. Marie Le Pen’s party received approximately 34% of the votes, surpassing their left- and center-right rivals, including President Emmanuel Macron’s United bloc, which received 20.5-23%, and the left-wing New People’s Front, which received about 29%. Voter turnout was also high at almost 60%, compared to 39.42% two years ago.
In response to the election results, President Macron announced that he will be dissolving the parliament and initiating extraordinary elections ahead of the European Parliament elections on June 9th. The move aims to address the changing political landscape in France and ensure that the new parliament reflects the will of the people. The upcoming second round of parliamentary elections will determine the composition of the new parliament and set the direction for France’s future policies.
