Failed Mediation: Jannie Haek, CEO of National Lottery, Faces Allegations of Verbal Abuse and Excessive Alcohol Consumption Amid Trust Crisis with Unions

The mediation process involving Jannie Haek, CEO of the National Lottery, has been unsuccessful after efforts to address issues surrounding difficult social consultations and concerns about his behavior fell on deaf ears. According to union representatives, Haek was accused of engaging in “unacceptable verbal abuse” towards staff and displaying “excessive alcohol consumption.”

Despite apologies from Haek for his communication style that may have been perceived as intimidating, inappropriate, and hurtful due to the use of inappropriate language or tone, trust has been completely eroded between him and the unions. This was further exacerbated by a contentious incident during a meeting where union representatives felt disrespected and attacked.

The unions have left the decision in the hands of the board of directors but have expressed disappointment that the situation has escalated to this point. Despite their efforts to work positively towards a resolution, they have chosen not to demand Haek’s dismissal.

Jannie Haek has been serving as CEO since 2013 with an annual fee of 290,000 euros. His mandate was extended in 2021 but ongoing issues surrounding his behavior have led to a breakdown in trust and communication with the unions.
