Extension of Technologies Modernization Fund System Via 2030 Proposed in Bill Revision

The Modernizing Government Technologies Reform Act of 2023, introduced by Reps. Gerry Connolly and Nancy Mace, aims to make essential revisions to the law that established the federal government’s Technologies Modernization Fund. The original law, referred to as the Modernizing Government Technologies Act, was passed in 2017. The new bill seeks to reauthorize the TMF till 2030 and enhance its funding by $50 million. At present, the fund is set to expire in 2025. In addition, the bill contains new reporting needs for the Federal CIO and agency CIOs, which includes the creation of inventories of higher-danger IT systems utilised across the government. These inventories will be utilised to prioritize systems in will need of modernization. Rep. Connolly expressed appreciation for the bill, thinking about it a demonstration of assistance for the MGT Act and the TMF. On Wednesday, the Committee on Oversight and Accountability is scheduled to talk about the bill.
