As a journalist, I had the chance to join the GSTL team today on duty, and we were thrilled to drill a new sample on Mars. Our mission was clear: not only would we focus on the main drill activities but also several targeted science blocks. These blocks will help us analyze and identify potential drill sites on unaltered Stimson bedrock.
During the second sol, our science block began with Mastcam multispectral characterization of the drill hole. This information is vital in distinguishing between altered and unaltered bedrock. Next, we created several Mastcam mosaics to assess a fracture that cuts across an impact crater. We also planned to use ChemCam targets to examine the block we were drilling and potential future sites.
Our plan for the second sol also included an additional target to assess unaltered Stimson bedrock. We are optimistic about our chances of a successful drilling campaign and are eager to discover more about the Martian terrain.
Overall, it was an exciting day for the GSTL team as we delved deeper into exploring Mars’ mysteries through scientific research and exploration.
