Broken Arrow seniors embrace technology in community class

In Tulsa, Oklahoma, the Broken Arrow Senior Center recently hosted a “step into technology” event for seniors to learn how to use their smartphones. During the event, volunteers from Leadership Broken Arrow taught participants various skills such as taking better photos, managing contacts, swiping and tapping on the screen, and making calls on their devices.

One of the attendees, Loreita Belding, found the session to be both educational and enjoyable. She appreciated having the opportunity to have one-on-one sessions with volunteers who were able to answer any questions she had. Joan Lock also expressed gratitude for learning more about her iPhone’s camera and storage features as well as understanding where her emails were stored.

The session also provided selfie tips and instructions on clearing storage on their devices. Belding was excited about using her newfound knowledge and planned to call her friends to share her improved phone skills. Ami Bucher, the organizer and manager of the senior center, emphasized the importance of patience in teaching seniors about technology as it can be frustrating without proper guidance. The success of the event has led to plans for future technology learning events based on feedback from attendees.
