Empowering Haitian Entrepreneurs: Salisbury, MD Community Workshop Helps Drive Growth and Financial Independence

The Haitian community in Salisbury, Maryland is thriving, and local entrepreneurs are eager to learn about starting and growing businesses. To address their needs, the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce and the Haitian Business Association of the Eastern Shore Inc. recently organized a small business workshop.

The Haitian Business Association (HBA) was founded to support the Haitian community in Salisbury, with over 25 Haitian businesses already established in the area. The organization aims to educate, network, and empower members of the Haitian community by connecting them with resources like the Chamber of Commerce.

During the workshop, topics such as access to capital, grant opportunities, and technical support were covered. Entrepreneurs often face unique challenges when starting a business, including language barriers, lack of education, and knowledge. The event aimed to provide these entrepreneurs with the tools and resources they need to achieve their business goals and visions.

Maryland Capital Enterprises is a nonprofit organization that has allocated $150,000 in funding to provide loans ranging from $5,000-$10,000 to Haitian business owners on the shore. The organization aims to build trust within the Haitian community and make them aware of the resources available to help them succeed.

Becoming a business owner provides Haitian entrepreneurs with a new sense of freedom and motivation to improve their families’ lives. They are determined to achieve independence and financial freedom through their businesses. Maryland Capital Enterprises offers technical assistance, one-on-one counseling, and SBA loans to support these entrepreneurs as they work towards their goals.

The Haitian Business Association plans to host more events in the future to continue supporting and empowering the Haitian community in Salisbury.
