Jacoby Brissett remains the projected starter despite Drake Maye’s offseason improvement

Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye is viewed as a project by the team, with Jacoby Brissett heavily favored to be the Week One starter at -300 while Maye is the underdog at +220. Throughout offseason practices, Maye has demonstrated noticeable improvement in his footwork, timing, and accuracy under the guidance of the Patriots’ coaching staff.

While it is unlikely that he will be the starting quarterback for the Patriots in Week One, there is a possibility that the team may transition to Maye around Week 13 to give him some playing time as a rookie. The most likely scenario, as suggested by Tom Curran of NBCSportsBoston.com, is that Brissett will start for the majority of the season. However, there are high hopes for Maye’s future as a franchise quarterback and his development may take some time.

Chosen as the third overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft, Maye has shown positive signs of development and is responding well to coaching. Despite this progress, it may be some time before he becomes a key player for the Patriots in the future. His progress will continue to be closely monitored as he works towards becoming a franchise quarterback for years to come.
