Tucker DeVries from Drake basketball decides to transfer to a new school

After discussing Drake basketball’s loss to Washington State in the NCAA Tournament, Tucker DeVries officially entered the transfer portal on Wednesday. This news was first reported by On3 Sports, following DeVries’ announcement that he was scheduled to undergo shoulder surgery after experiencing issues for most of the season. Despite these challenges, DeVries was able to complete the season by playing through the pain and contributing to the team in any way possible.

During his time at Drake, Tucker DeVries made a significant impact as a true freshman starter. In his junior season, he averaged impressive statistics, including 21.6 points, 6.7 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game, along with 53 steals, a career-high for him. He also earned the prestigious Larry Bird Trophy award twice as the conference player of the year.

Throughout his tenure at Drake, DeVries was instrumental in the team’s success, leading them to back-to-back Missouri Valley Conference tournament championships and NCAA Tournament berths. As Darian DeVries takes on a new coaching role at West Virginia, it is anticipated that more Bulldog players will enter the transfer portal in the coming days. With Tucker following in his father’s footsteps to West Virginia University and other players considering their next moves, it remains uncertain what lies ahead for Drake basketball program after coaching change.
