A total of 5.1 million viewers watched the three-network simulcast of Friday night’s draft coverage, according to Sports Business Journal. This marks the smallest audience since 2012. Despite an additional 275,000 fans attending the second night of the draft in Detroit, making up 5.5 percent of the total TV audience, there was a noticeable disconnect between live attendance and TV viewership. The lack of quarterbacks being drafted in rounds two and three contributed to this decline in viewership, as did the hype surrounding the draft seeming to diminish after the first round. However, following the draft on a phone is simple and convenient, which may have diminished the appeal of watching the picks being made after the first round.
