Doubts and Controversy: The Mental Health of President Biden and Ex-President Trump in the 2024 Race

As the 2024 presidential race approaches, concerns about the mental and cognitive health of both President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump have come to the forefront. A recent CBS/YouGov national survey revealed that nearly half of registered voters, including 72% of Democrats, expressed doubts about Biden’s ability to serve as president for another term following his faltering performance in the debate. This skepticism has increased by seven percentage points since June.

Similarly, a significant number of voters, 49%, also expressed concerns about Trump’s mental and cognitive capacity to handle the responsibilities of the presidency. While questions surrounding Biden’s age and health have been circulating for some time, his faltering responses and overall performance in the recent debate have amplified these concerns. These survey results may lead to more calls for Biden, who is 81 years old, to step down from the presidential race and allow another Democratic nominee to take his place.

Despite these doubts, Biden has made it clear that he has no intentions of withdrawing from the 2024 race. Key Democratic leaders such as Nancy Pelosi and John Fetterman have shown support for Biden and dismissed any notion of him stepping aside. However, everyday Democratic voters are increasingly in favor of Biden not running for president again. Concerns about his age, decision-making abilities in office, and campaigning skills were cited as reasons for wanting Biden to step aside.

The CBS/YouGov poll was conducted among 1,130 registered voters with a margin of error of +/- 4.2 percentage points. Ultimately, these survey results highlight the contrasting opinions within the Democratic Party regarding Biden’s candidacy for the upcoming presidential election.

Biden’s continued presence in the race despite doubts about his mental health has raised questions about whether he can effectively carry out his duties if reelected. Critics argue that he may be too frail or unable to handle intense political opposition or make difficult decisions on behalf of American people.

In contrast, Trump has faced criticism over his behavior during his presidency and allegations that he suffers from dementia or other cognitive impairments.

As a result of these concerns, there have been calls for both candidates to undergo medical evaluations before they run again.

Overall, while both candidates face their own unique set of challenges when it comes to their mental health during an election year
