Dodgers manager says Shohei Ohtani gambling scandal not a distraction

Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani will be addressing the media for the first time since allegations were made against his longtime interpreter Ippei Mizuhara. Major League Baseball has opened an investigation into the claims that Mizuhara had placed illegal bets on non-baseball sports. The situation with Mizuhara came to light because gambling remains illegal in California, where the Dodgers are based.

Mizuhara is alleged to have placed his bets with an accused bookmaker who is at the center of a federal investigation. The bookmaker has denied ever talking to or meeting Ohtani, and Mizuhana’s story about Ohtani’s involvement has changed multiple times.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts believes that it will be beneficial for Ohtani to speak out about the situation, as he believes it has not been a distraction to the rest of the team. The Dodgers recently played a two-game series in Seoul, South Korea against the San Diego Padres, going 1-1 in those games. They will now play three games against the Los Angeles Angels before returning to their regular season schedule.

As he prepares to address the media, Ohtani remains focused on his on-field performance and addressing the allegations surrounding his interpreter.
